10 Essential Oils to Survive the Holidays!
Tis the season to be jolly… It’s the most wonderful time of the year… Silent night, holy night. All is calm, all is bright... Well yes, sometimes. The holidays are a magical time of year AND they can also be stressful, exhausting, frustrating, and bring on colds and health challenges as the weather drops. That’s why I’m a big fan of preparation. I always talk about being prepared with the right foods but what about the right tools for emotional stability when every single one of your family members are in the same room. Or preparation for an immune system boost so you feel protected & safe when all the snifling children want to play.Enter my secret weapon....Essential Oils. I suppose that essential oils aren’t such a health “secret” anymore and that’s for good reason. But if you are unfamiliar with them, they are essentially medicinal plant blood -- the flowers, leaves, barks, roots and fruits of plants. These oils have been used for thousands of years for natural healing remedies for everything from emotional distress, to burns, to infectious disease.
They help balance hormones to prevent bloating, moodiness, and cramps each month
They naturally treat fevers, sore throats, allergies, and cuts/bruises
They prevent the reoccurring sinus infections I used to get
They help you relax, feel happy, sleep better, & feel peace & calm
It’s extremely empowering to have all the tools at your fingertips to care for your body how & whenever you need. That is why, in honor of the holiday season upon us, I put together this guide -- here are the top 10 Essential Oils to Use to Survive the Holidays.
Thieves = Immune supportThis oil got its name because thieves used it in the 15th century to rob people who were dead or dying from the bubonic plague - they used this oil blend to keep themselves from contracting the deadly plague. It is a blend of Clove, Lemon, Eucalyptus, Cinnamon & Rosemary.Best way to use this oil: 1 drop on your tongue and pressed to the roof of your mouth daily, diffused in your home, or put a few drops in a capsule and take orally -- all methods will powerfully boost your immune system.
Peppermint = DigestionHoliday gatherings can often mean big & heavy meals. One of the best ways to counterbalance this and support a healthy digestive system is to use a drop of Peppermint on your tongue (just 1 because the oil is very strong!) before and after your meal.I also love to put a drop in my tea or coffee with some coconut or almond milk. It's like a Peppermint Latte without all the added sugar.
Joy = Good vibesEvery single morning I rub two drops over my heart and then inhale the scent from the palm of my hands. If you are feeling stressed, tired, or uninspired, this is the perfect oil to turn to for good vibes & JOY.When diffused, it creates a warm, comforting environment and inspires a romantic aromatic atmosphere (perfect for the holidays!) -- it is a blend of Bergamot, Ylang Ylang, Geranium, Lemon, Coriander, Tangerine, Jasmine, Roman Chamomile, Palmarosa, and Rose.
RC = Respiratory healthCongestion? Asthma? Cough?RC is best used on the bottom of the feet or the chest to support healthy lung function and your respiratory system. It is a blend of 9 different oils used to:- Support the respiratory system- For cleansing and purifying- For meditation and lifting the spirit- Soothing for stressed muscles and joints
Lemon = Cocktail alternativeThe citrus oils, lemon, tangerine, orange, and grapefruit, are some of the best oils to have around during a holiday party. If you're looking for a healthier alternative to beer & wine, have soda water with a couple drops of a citrus oil for a healthy, delicious, and cleansing drink. This is a cocktail alternative that will leave you feeling better than before you had it -- that's a holiday win.Even better yet, 2 drops of lemon oil in water 3x's per day can support metabolism and weight loss. Happy Holidays!
Lavender = Calming & soothingLavender is an oil I use daily - on the back on my neck, on my temples, wrists, and the bottoms of my feet to relax and ease stress. When diffused, its balancing properties create a relaxing and harmonizing environment. Bring your diffuser to your family's house or make sure you have yours on for a few hours prior to any company arriving for a sweet, relaxing, and tranquil get together.
Stress Away = Less stressMaybe it's not your family that stresses you during the holidays but its the lines at the mall, cooking, traffic, or wrapping presents. In that case, and ALL cases where any stress is present, this oil is your very best friend. It comes as a roll-on oil and works immediately.I started using it before presentations I did and it truly works miracles. It's a blend of vanilla, lime, copaiba, and other pure essential oils that relieves daily stress, encourages relaxation, and reduces nervous tension. It's great to apply right when you wake up in the morning.
Frankincense = Grounding & spiritual connectionFrankincense is the perfect oil for the Christmas celebration -- it is an extremely relaxing oil (often used in meditation) and helps keep you calm, cool, and collected throughout the frenzy of preparing for and executing (or attending) a holiday gathering.Best uses: - Inhale before or after a meal to spiritually refocus- Rub on the bottom of your feet to help alleviate nervous energy- Diffuse to radiate a beautiful atmosphere of serenity when your nerves are over taxed- Share with those around you to soothe over excited children (or adults)
Cinnamon = Warming, comforting, & strengtheningCinnamon helps to keep you emotionally stable and balanced, similar to Frankincense. However, it also helps to refocus the mind, and boost energy after too much shopping or celebrating. Cinnamon can be diffused in any room to set the energy for holiday festivities or even baked into desserts and sweet treats. For an overall immune boost, rub 2 drops on the bottom of your feet or back of your neck.
Tea Tree = Antibacterial, antimicrobial, & antiviralOverall, you can remember this about Tea Tree.....skin problems + tea tree oil = healing. For dry skin, inflamed skin, itchy skin, or stressed skin in the cooler winter months, use tea tree oil in a carrier oil like coconut oil and rub on the face and body for soothing.
